Envisioning Arts

"A sunrise, winter's hand, nature's architecture, spring blossoms. That's what excites me."

- Dr. Cranston Sedrick Knight

Mission Statement

As a photographer and poet, I have always been amazed at the similarities between the two.  The wonders of language and the beauty of an image are majestic.  My photography touches multiple areas of light and dark, dusk and dawn, seeking simplicity in the complexity of life; a sunrise, winters hand, architecture, or urban scene.

My work is photojournalistic; it begs to tell a story line, always transformative, seeking “the road less traveled.”  In the end, they travel twisted roads.
My pen name is C. S. Ramirez-Knight. I am a historian who has had one foot in academia and the other in fine arts since his early youth.

I spent my formative years growing up in the Henry Horner Housing Projects previously located on the West Side of Chicago. I was introduced to photography at an early age, when I took a photo class offered at the Boy’s Club located in the community.

It was amazing, watching negatives come to life. I remember the darkroom, red light overhead, photo chemical smells, an enlarger close by; all created a surreal space I never forgot. Photography exposed me to a world outside my daily experience of busy public housing life.

I became fascinated with light, it wove an exciting tapestry of images; it was consistent, vibrant, and beautiful in a place that held little beauty.  It spoke and gave me a sense of control and wonderment, I thrived.

I am captivated each time I look through my camera's lens, I am given an opportunity to add a few sentences about life, not as I would like it, but as it exists.  With a single click, I insert a proclamation into an ongoing debate concerning world affairs, human creativity, and nature’s enduring legacy.

As a contemporary historian, I view photography not as an investigative tool, but as transformative, interconnectivity, and adaptable aspect of life.

This triad reflects conflict, resolution, and viability.  It is the past and presents reflected in a burst of lights, detailing millions of human decisions made at once, caught by camera light.

Every photo is a revered page of historical crosscurrents of moments in time.

I am more intrigued, though despite best efforts, humans have no control over dusk or dawn, moving rivers, or moon rise, but often make every effort to do so.

World affairs, human creativity, and nature’s enduring legacy.

My work displays the intersections, adaptability, metaphases, and interconnectivity of the above elements.  At the core of this triad, their ability to intersect, adapt, and interrelate; each reflects conflict, resolution, and viability.  My work enters life’s conversation; it is constant yet frail, but always evolving.
